PROF. GAWEN JENKIN
APPLIED GEOLOGY

Gawen Jenkin is Professor in Mineral Resources at the University of Leicester in Applied Geology with over 30 years experience. He possesses expertise in ore mineralogy, mineral and material characterisation and extraction of elements.

He has pioneered methodologies for studying mineral dissolution in-situ and written the seminal paper on application of deep eutectic solvents to mineral processing. Involved in £9.5M successful research bids. Author of over 50 papers

PROF. ANDY ABBOTT
PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY

Specialised in ionic liquids, electrochemistry, material science, metal recycling. Abbott started the field of Deep Eutectic Solvents, which now has thousands of papers. Managed 36 major grants since 2000 most of which involved industrial partners. Four EPSRC grants on material processing led to the Royal Society Brian Mercer Award which has resulted in spinning out technology for thermoplastic wood. Editor of a book on Electrodeposition using ionic liquids and wrote the first review of Ionometallurgy (topic of this proposal). Author >160 papers + 9 patents with over 7,000 citations

DR ROB HARRIS
PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY

Rob Harris has over 15 years’ experience working in the field of deep eutectic solvents. He developed several of the pilot scale deep eutectic solvent processes and has a strong background as a industrial liaison.

Following his PhD with Abbott in 2008 working on ionic liquid characterisation he worked for Scionix Ltd for 5 years working on electric arc furnace dust recycling and novel biodiesel refining processes. Since then he been a core member of the research team working on a variety of Innovate UK, NERC and EU funded projects. Author > 20 papers and 4 patents

JOHN MURRAY
CHAIRMAN

Mr Murray is the founding principal of Swann Global with more than 35 years in the mining and executive search industries. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience that enables him to understand and accurately define the needs of his clients and candidates. ​He enjoys close working relationships with key organizations and leaders within the mining industry globally. He is regularly invited to conduct Board assessments to leading mining groups in North America, Europe and Australasia.

He has an international reputation for the way in which he is able to add value to those who seek his advice and services. He is known for his forthright assessments and his ability to think about the industry in a unique way, often challenging the status quo.

DR LEO HOWDEN
DIRECTOR

Leo is a finance professional with over a decade of experience in the natural resources industry as a corporate finance practitioner and director of junior mining companies. Managing Director of advisory firm Medea Natural Resources he has worked on a broad range of projects covering precious and base metals and has extensive expertise in equity, debt, mergers & acquisitions and principal investing. Recently he was a non-executive director of Tesoro Resources Ltd, a Chile focused precious metals discovery and development company now listed on the ASX. Prior to joining Medea Natural Resources he was an Associate Director for German investment bank, WestLB AG in London, working as an originator in the structured commodity finance team. Leonidas holds a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK.

JONATHAN WILLIAMS
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Jonathan joined Argo after a 25-year career in The City of London as a stockbroker. Over the last 15 years, Jonathan has specialised in the natural resources sector where he has been involved in a large number of high-profile capital raisings for mining, oil & gas and renewables companies, bringing with him a high level of expertise and understanding of the companies we work with.
